About The Yuma Community Food Bank

The History

Founded in 1978 by a group of dedicated volunteers, the Yuma Community Food Bank was established with a clear focus on feeding hungry children within Yuma County. Over 45 years later, our organization continues to uphold and expand our mission. The Yuma Community Food Bank now orchestrates various emergency and supplemental food programs, each incorporating educational and nutritional components to benefit families throughout the region. This enduring commitment reflects the food bank's evolution from a small volunteer initiative to becoming the largest hunger relief effort serving Southwestern Arizona, dedicated to alleviating hunger and enhancing our community's well-being.

The Vision

To create a hunger-free community where everyone has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive.

We aspire to a future where food insecurity is eliminated, and every person in the community has the resources to lead healthy, productive lives. By mobilizing support, fostering partnerships and continually expanding our services, we are committed to transforming this vision into reality and making sure that no one in our community faces the uncertainty of not knowing where their next meal will come from.

The Mission

The mission of the Yuma Community Food Bank is to relieve hunger, increase self-reliance and improve the quality of life for children and families throughout Southwestern Arizona. With a commitment to serving those in need, the Yuma Community Food Bank focuses on providing nutritious food while supporting programs that foster independence among recipients. By addressing both immediate food needs and the broader aspects of nutrition and self-sufficiency, the Yuma Community Food Bank plays a crucial role in enhancing the welfare of the community it serves, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to lead a healthy and productive life.

How We Fight Hunger At The Yuma Food Bank

TEFAP – The Emergency Food Assistance Program

The Emergency Food Assistant Program (TEFAP) helps individuals access nutritious food at no cost.  Through a partnership with the USDA, TEFAP provides a variety of foods to help supplement household groceries and support food security throughout our community.  While TEFAP can help stretch a family's food budget, it is not intended to provide all of a household's monthly grocery needs.

CSFP – Commodity Supplemental Food Program

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides eligible adults age 60 and older with a specially designed food box to help supplement their nutritional needs.  The program promotes healthy aging by offering a variety of nutritious foods that help improve diet quality and overall well-being of seniors who may be at risk for food insecurity and provides consistent access to essential groceries each month.
